The open workshop
Licenses & source files
Anyone can use the Academy’s original lessons for free. You can also copy, change, share or sell the original code and practice projects covered by the MIT license. Keep the copyright and permission notice with copies or substantial portions.
What you can reuse
The bundle contains our tabletop ring frame, pivot leg, alignment squares and keyed service box. It includes the printable models, full-size patterns, original fabrication notes and source for the pivot, squares and enclosure. The generic drawing engine and service-box model are included for anyone building their own lesson.
The MIT grant covers the Academy contributors’ original application code, lesson explanations, original robot field illustrations and these practice files. The models illustrate mechanics and fit. Their dimensions belong to the practice projects.
First Roll firmware
This original Arduino exercise runs a short wheel test on the supported Uno and V1 motor shield. Its download includes the sketch and its MIT notice. The Arduino board package is installed separately.
Independent robot builds
The guides identify the builder and hardware version they describe. Character designs, third-party plans, models, firmware and manuals have their own rights and terms. The Academy license gives no permission to use a third party’s character, likeness, name or mark, or to imply endorsement. The Academy name and logo also remain identifiers of this project.
R2-D2 and BB-8
These are independent educational guides to robots from Star Wars. Frank Pirz permits use of his Media-Conversions plans for building a personal R2 and restricts sales of parts made from them. Lewis Aburrow publishes his BB-8 replica through DIY Machines. Check the source’s terms before sharing files or asking a shop to reproduce a part. A fan builder’s permission covers only the rights they hold.

Microduck and XGO-Duck
Pollen Robotics licenses the specific STL files listed in its training repository under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Other files there carry Apache 2.0. Luwu Dynamics describes its XGO hardware licensing as pending at the file level and asks builders to confirm permission for the files they need. The Academy’s original service box is a separate project.
